Apple Crisp: A Taste of Fall and Family

As the leaves start to turn and the air grows cooler, there's one recipe I always find myself coming back to--Apple Crisp. There's something about fall and apples that just belong together, and this dessert captures that cozy feeling perfectly. It's simple, not too sweet, and packed with the kind of warmth that makes a house feel like a home.
This recipe isn't just about flavor for me--it's about memory. When I was a kid, my mom would make apple crisp as a special treat. She'd serve it warm, sometimes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream , and other times just on its own, letting the taste of apples and cinnamon shine. Every once in a while, if I was lucky, I'd get to have a bowl for breakfast the next morning.
Since her passing, I've made this apple crisp a few times, and each time it feels like she's right there in the kitchen with me. It's one of the small ways I stay connected to her--through the smells, the tastes, and the comfort of something she used to make with love.
If you're looking for a fall dessert that brings together the best of the season and maybe even a little nostalgia of your own, this apple crisp is it. Whether you serve it warm with ice cream, or enjoy a scoop on a quiet morning with coffee, I hope it brings you a little comfort too.
Apple Crisp
6 apples- peeled, cored, and sliced
2 T white sugar (can substitute with Splenda)
1 1/2 t ground cinnamon, divided
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup oats
3/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup cold butter (can melt it if you want)
I also added blueberries
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C)
Toss apples with white sugar and 1/2 t cinnamon in a medium bowl to coat. Pour into a 9 inch square baking dish (I normally spray a little cooking spray like Pam or grease with butter).
Mix brown sugar, oats, flour, and 1t cinnamon in a separate bowl.
Cut in cold butter with two knives or a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Spread over apples and pat down gently until even.
Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown and sides are bubbling. (About 40 minutes)
Serve and Enjoy!
